shanghai soundbites 07-08______________________中文

Shanghai is not the traditional arena in which you would expect to find a thriving counter-cultural scene. Lacking the necessary conflicts ad restlessness, the zeitgeist seems distinguished by a universal complacent search for material gain and comfort. Nonetheless, the past year has unexpectedly produced an increasing number of alternative events as exciting and raw as you may expect to find anywhere. Bands from across the nation as well as from numerous other countries have passed through the city whipping up a storm alongside local music producers and recording artists. From a state of near cultural stagnation, the city now may seem caught up in a cultural regeneration.

Yet, no matter how much energy is spent, the city seems just as eager to forget as it is to welcome. As it relentless rushes into the future, the city seems determined not to leave any stone unturned. Now just as many of those who have put so much effort into channeling this flow may be leaving, ‘Shanghai Soundbites’ brings together some of the dynamic live moments of the past year photographed by Tim Franco, attempting to impress them into our memory before they are swept away by the city’s appetite for disposable novelties.
